2 volumes, 2° (426 x 317mm). Arabic text printed in red and black. Double-page chromolithographic title borders, 215 photographic plates from glass negatives and 30 coloured plates, some chromolithographed, illustrations, some full-page, 2 large folding lithographic maps and 44-page index in inner pocket. (Somewhat affected by damp with crinkling of leaves and occasional marginal waterstains.) Original green cloth, later morocco-backed slipcases.
A FINELY ILLUSTRATED WORK, produced under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Pious Endowments, showing interior and exterior views of the well-known and lesser known mosques of Egypt, with the addition of key architectural and decorative details. As a considerable number of mosques were either destroyed or badly damaged in the earthquake of 1955, it is a key record of both what does and does not survive today. (2)
