The alarm clock is the oldest working mechanical clock. It can be traced back to the middle of the 14th Century and in the early days of Swiss watchmaking. With increasing industrialization and travel, these clocks had higher demand. Early alarm clocks had a ring of holes in the clock dial and were set by placing a pin in the appropriate hole.
Looping Corcelles was a well-known alarm clock manufacturer in western Switzerland. They survived the global recessions of the 30s and 70s, but the collapse of the Swiss watch industry at the beginning of the 80s ensured that the company that once employed up to 100 employees had to register for bankruptcy.
