With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1977 and its subsequent sale on August 11th of the same year.

Reference 3448 was the world's first self-winding perpetual calendar wristwatch made by any manufacturer and was in production for nearly two decades. Predominently encased in yellow gold, examples in white gold are more rare and thus far only one example in rose gold is known, which was the highlight of Christie's Geneva November 11, 2011 sale fetching an all time record for this reference.

The present example comes from a private collector and displays the wonderful combination of a vintage wristwatch with all the practical aspects a demanding collector could expect when wanting to enjoy his vintage complicated wristwatch on a daily basis, as it has a very contemporary and timeless look but also a very practical state of the art movement indicating day, date, month and faces of the moon combined with the self-winding caliber.

Reference 3448 is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 288, in Ore d'Oro by Jader Barracca, Giampiero Negretti and Franco Nencini, p. 45, and in Time in Gold - Wristwatches by Gerald Viola & Gisbert L. Brunner, pp. 143 & 149.
