Lot Essay

Fantastic Bird was created by Morrocco from driftwood, flotsum and jetsum collected from an Italian beach on a family holiday during the 1960s.
Victoria Keller comments on Morrocco's sculpture: 'The works are quirky and humorous, reminiscent of the amusing, sometimes slightly threatening found-object sculptures that Picasso and Miró produced of surreal people and animals' (C.Young and V. Keller, Alberto Morrocco 1917-1998, Edinburgh, 2008, p. 109).
