Lot Essay

This acetate is offered for sale by a recording artist and songwriter who wrote many songs that were recorded by Elvis Presley. The vendor was a songwriter in the early 1960s and, on one occasion, a representative at a record company gave him this acetate, telling him it was a demonstration record of songs written by a "talented kid" who had not yet had a commercial release but who the label felt had a great deal of potential. It was suggested that the vendor "try and write material like that kid."
Dylan can be heard singing and playing guitar on each track on this acetate. On track 9, Tomorrow Is A Long Time, voices can be heard which are probably Dylan's and a sound engineer who appears to adjust Dylan's microphone and on track 10, Masters Of War, Dylan makes a false start before beginning the song.
This is the second example of this acetate to appear on the market. In 2006, an identical copy from the collection of Suze Rotolo was sold through Christie's, New York for $19,200.
