The movement by Claudius Du Chesne, London, second quarter 18th century; the case, late 18th century
The case of typical form, the arched hood with domed cresting and surmounted by ball-shaped finials, the arched brass dial with silvered tune selection ring above the moonphase, with subsidiary rings to each spandrel for strike/not strike, chime/not chime, month and day of the month, the silvered chapter ring signed Claudius Du Chesne Londini Fecit, the matted center with subsidiary seconds ring and sector for day of week above the VI, the seven pillar brass three-train movement with anchor escapement and strike on bell to the side, the musical movement mounted horizantally above the movement, the 27 cm. long pinned brass barrel playing six tunes on ten bells; pendulum, three large weights, door key and winding key
