Lot Essay

The present painting copies exactly an engraving by Adriaen Lommelin (Rijksprentenkabinet, inv.no RP-P-OB46.277) after an unknown Rubens invention. Rubens' painting in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Dijon, shows a very similar composition (inv.no. 164).
