FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY DODGSON on the half-title: "Ethel Florence Southwell, from the Author. Jan. 29/86." Ethel Florence Southwell, née Barclay (1864-1947) was one of Dodgson's child-friends. She was a daughter of Dodgson's Christ Church colleague Rev. Henry Alexander Barclay.
