MATTERS OF STYLE FOR FINEST HOUR. Churchill clears up for his English publisher certain stylistic matters for the second volume of his World War II memoirs, Their Finest Hour. The titles of armies are to be spelt out ("Eighth Army"), corps are to be identified in roman numerals and divisions in Arabic numerals. In a mildly annoyed tone, Churchill adds, "It is not Mr. Wood who 'instructs' you on the text," referring to Charles C. Wood, the proofreader taken on after the debacle of the first English printing of The Gathering Storm. "I have been through everything myself, and take the responsibility for the final decisions..."
