"ELECTORS TO BE APPOINTED FOR CHOOSING A PRESIDENT"
TIMETABLE FOR THE NEW GOVERNMENT. A fascinating memorandum from the months preceding the launch of the new Federal government of the United States, in which Governor Livingston sets out the deadlines in connection with the selection and reporting of presidential electors and the election of members of Congress. "7 January -- Electors to be appointed for choosing a President. This has been done. 4 February -- The Electors to meet to choose the President. 4 March -- The new Congress to meet... 11 February -- The Election for the Representatives to be on the 11 of February. 12 January -- The Tickets must be subscribed 30 days before, that is by the 12 of January. List of the persons voted for to be delivered by the judges & Inspectors to the Sheriff 4 days after closing the election, which will be about the 16 of February..." An interesting glimpse of the procedural steps required to implement the new Charter devised in Philadelphia and ratified by the people.
