TURNER, William (1792-1867). Journal of a Tour in the Levant. London: John Murray, 1820. 3 volumes, 8° (212 x 130mm). 2 folding maps, 21 plates after Turner, of which 6 hand-coloured aquatints and several folding, one folding reproduction of a letter in Greek, numerous text illustrations and diagrams, errata leaf at end of vol. III. (Lacking half-titles and 4-pages of advertisements in vol. III, occasional light spotting and light browning.) Contemporary calf, gilt, red morocco labels on spines, speckled edges (rebacked preserving old spine, some scuffing, corners bumped).
FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. Turner's travels, while he was attached to the British embassy at Constantinople, took him to Egypt, the Holy Land, Albania, Greece and numerous Greek islands, as well as Turkey.
