Large woodcut on titles, portrait on verso of first title, 66 woodcut illustrations, 2 large, and 77 woodcut diagrams. (Occasional light staining.) Contemporary vellum with one tie (rather darkened).
FIRST EDITION of this essentially mercantile work by the German-Dutch arithmetician of the sixteenth century, Valentin Menher of Kempten. 'Menher was one of the pioneers among the Dutch arithmeticians, and his successors, particularly in the period from 1600 to 1650, produced some very practical textbooks' (Smith, Rara arithmetica, pp.250 and 281 and fig.138).
