Lot Essay

The underside of the table bears the inscription 'Jn..Long'. While a cabinet-maker of the name John Long is recorded at 7 Little Compton Street, Soho, London, his records (1779-86) post-date the style of the table. The maker may be related to this maker or various others of this name recorded working in the 18th century.
