Lot Essay

Although it has not been possible to identify the present view it is believed to depict the South Tyrol. Harding is known to have travelled to Italy in 1824 and again in 1831, 1834 and 1835. Celebrated not only for his success with watercolour, Harding provided the illustrations for numerous publications, including Views of the South of Germany, the Tyrol and Italy (1825), The Tourist in Italy (1831) and Finden's Illustrations of the Life and Works of Lord Byron (1832).
