Lot Essay

This gown pays homage to Lanvin's signature 'Robes de Style' of the 1920s. Characterised by a fitted bodice, dropped waist and full skirt, which hid the figure and made it comfortable to wear, it closely resembeled the 18th century court dress.

Compare The Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection for a fall/winter 1926 'Robe de Style' by Lanvin, accession Number '2009.300.2506'.

Daphne purchased this dress in Paris to wear for a friend's birthday, which was taking place the same evening.
