This gown has been worn by Daphne on a number of shoots, notably when Bryan Adams shot her for Harpers Bazaar, as well as a recent Harpers shoot by Mat Collishaw. Although reluctant to part with it, she wanted to include a piece by McQueen in the sale and always thought it would make a most spectacular wedding dress.

McQueen's collection from which this gown comes, was inspired by a six hundred year old elm tree in his garden and a story he imagined about a girl emerging from the tree to meet a prince.

See the Metropolitan Museum for a similar gown from the same collection in black silk and leather.

The dress in this lot is worn by Daphne Guinness in the accompanying photograph. It is one of a series of four photographs shot by Mat Collishaw for Harper's Bazaar UK, June 2012.
