Lot Essay

These portraits, intended as pendants, represent Jost Bernhard Pfyffer von Altishofen and his wife Maria Pfyffer von Altishofen, née Cloos zu Mauensee. Both the Pfyffer and the Cloos families belonged to the Lucerne aristocracy and sat in the city's Great and Small Councils.
