Modelled respectively as a seated male and female monkey, the male wearing a tricorn hat, his hands in a muff, the female wearing a hood and holding a mirror, above a scrolled foliate base, with spurious 'C couronné'

The present pair of chenets 'aux singes', formerly part of the René Fribourg Collection, is mentioned by G. de Bellaigue in relation to a virtually identical pair dated mid-18th Century at Waddesdon Manor (G. de Bellaigue, The James A. de Rothschild Collection at Waddesdon Manor, Furniture, Clocks and Gilt Bronzes, vol. II, London, 1974, p.730, fig.186).
