The interior of the circular bowl painted with a lady and an attendant washing her hands, in a bed chamber, the bowl exterior with a landscape and buildings, on a circular socle foot, the top of the flat cover with a bare-breasted woman and a child within clouds enclosed by a ribbon-tied garland border, the underside with Cupid among clouds holding garlands (two small repaired chips to rim, slight chipping and glaze flaking to rims, cover with two slight chips to rim)
The cover 7 11/16 in. (19.5 cm.) diam.

For a similar 'accouchement set' bowl and cover painted with buildings and landscapes on the exterior in the same dark palette and free style, and with similar figures and interior scenes, see Tjark Hausmann, Majolika. Spanische und Italienische Keramik vom 14. Bis zum 18. Jahrhundert, Kataloge des Kunstgewerbemuseums Berlin VI, Berlin, 1972, pp. 287-289, no. 208, where it is attributed to the Urbino workshop of the Fontana family.
