Lot Essay

The present portrait was most likely executed in Venice sometime around or after Prince Frederick Christian's visit to the city in 1739. The visit was commemorated in Pietro Longhi's Reception of the Prince of Poland by the Doge's Ambassador in the Collection of the Royal Castle Museum, Warsaw.
