The furniture, works of art and paintings presented in this catalogue are from an important historic Palazzo set in the Brianza area of Lombardy. The history of this Palazzo began at the end of the 16th century when a banker from Como decided to build a sumptuous dwelling to celebrate the power and status of his family. The exterior of the house, the impressiveness of its architectural design and the superb interiors suggest that it was constructed under the direction of eminent architects. At the beginning of the 18th Century, the head of the household wished to further aggrandise part of the Palazzo by turning some rooms into a theatre, furthermore, marble doorways, chimneypieces with richly decorated hoods, precious frescos and stuccos, papier peint, magnificent ceilings , some coffered or polychrome-painted and the Venetian mosaic floor were added to the interior. In the first years of the 19th century, the Palazzo became a gathering point for intellectuals and artists. During this period, the faade was re-modelled in the late neoclassical style and the garden transformed in the manner of an English park, with impressively picturesque views which enhanced the beauty of the natural landscape. Today, descendants of the family still live in this magnificent Villa and with equal passion to those before them, they continue to embellish it according to their taste, renovating while at the same time lovingly respecting these venerable walls.
