Lot Essay

This boldly carved console with its scrolled Triton and Sea-Goddess centred by an enlarged scallop shell relates to a deeper carved console dating to the end of the 17th Century in the Palazzo Reale, Milan (see S. Colombo, L' Arte del Mobile in Italia, fig. 171).
