Lot Essay

Built from scratch on a greenfield site, the exhibition was intended to be temporary but some buildings survived into the 1970s, if only because of the high cost of demolition of the huge concrete structures. The Palace of Engineering (pictured) was the world's largest reinforced concrete building and hosted the fencing events from the Summer Olympics.
