Maharaja Duleep Singh Sukerchakia (d. 1893) was the last Maharaja of the Sikh Empire. He was exiled to London in 1854, having been dethroned by the British Raj in 1849. Duleep Singh was welcomed into the European court by Queen Victoria. He bought Elveden in 1863 and proceeded to transform the estate into a game reserve and the house into an oriental palace where he lived the life of a British aristocrat.
