BY JAQUES, LONDON, THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY
The white king stamped 'JAQUES LONDON', one knight and rook to each side stamped with crown
Kings -- 3½ in. (9 cm.); pawns -- 1½ in. (4 cm.) high
Together with a carton-pierre box with green label, circa 1870, printed 'THE STAUNTON CHESS-MEN. TWO PRIZE MEDALS AWARDED 1862. JAQUES, LONDON.' and signed facsimile 'H. STAUNTON'; and a Victorian carton-pierre mounted leather folding board, the exterior modelled with pierced Gothic tracery, the interior gilt-tooled with interlaced border and inscribed 'BLACK' and 'WHITE' at either end, together with 'LEUCHARS PICCADILLY' (3)
