A MAGNIFICENT PRIVATE COLLECTION OF RARE SPANISH WINES

At Christie's we take pride in clients' acknowledgment of our skill and expertise as the Rioja specialists of the auction business. We have a grand tradition for selling superlative Spanish cellars, a tradition that dates back to December 1998. Since then, we have sold an extraordinary range of collections, reflecting the breadth and quality of wines to be found in this region. We recognize that this well-positioned area of northern Spain has the potential to make wines with the power, elegance and longevity to rival any of the great wine making regions of Europe. These are wines that were made for the long haul, wines that were grown over long, hot summers and then stored in deep, dark cellars in quiet corners of La Rioja.
With this in mind, we are delighted to present the following, magnificent private collection of rare Spanish wines. The wines are in excellent condition and have recently been removed from a cool, purpose-built cellar in the centre of Rioja, where many have been stored since release. This is an extraordinarily broad collection, offering wines for the Rioja connoisseur, wherever his or her tastes lie. Vintages range from 1911 through to 2003 and cover a comprehensive selection of the greatest Rioja vintages of the 20th century. Highlights from the vast cellar include Vega Sicilia Unico dating back to the 1920s and rare, old vintages of Viña Tondonia and Bosconia from Lopez-Heredia. There are also some lovely wartime bottles from Marqués de Murrieta and full cases of Viña Real from 1950s. This cellar is a well-preserved testament to the charming, robust and enduring spirit of Rioja. Enjoy!

Wines offered in bond may be taken in bond or duty paid.
If you choose to take these lots in bond the hammer price will be payable in full. We will no longer deduct excise duty from the hammer price.
If you choose to take these lots duty paid, excise duty at the current rate and clearance VAT on the hammer price will be added to your invoice.
These charges cannot be cancelled or refunded by Christie’s.
