Posed in tribhanga, dressed in an striated dhoti secured with an elaborate belt, adorned with necklaces and other jewelry, her face with almond-shaped eyes beneath finely arched brows, the hair in an elaborate twist off to the side, with interlocking vines above

Lot Essay

The curling vines behind her head are possibly branches from a mango or other fruit tree, enhancing the fertile nature of this goddess. Another figure of a goddess with similar treatment of the branches coming from the Doris Wiener Collection was sold previously in these rooms (Christie's New York, 20 March 2012, lot 48).
