Lot Essay

This maquette of Richard Rogers is related to a commission which Sir Eduardo Paolozzi undertook for the National Portrait Gallery, London in 1988. The bronze portrait of Richard Rogers, smiling and unsmiling, now forms part of the Portrait Gallery's permanent collection. Rogers is a world renowned British architect, whose work includes the Pompidou Centre, Paris, The European Court of Human Rights, Strasbourg and the O2, London. He is a winner of the RIBA Gold Medal, the RIBA Stirling Prize and the Pritzker Prize.
