Johnson maintained the unities of time, place and action in this his sole dramatic work which, aided by the powers of Garrick, was acted nine times -- a more successful run at least than Godwin's Antonio which was abandoned after the first performance. The other dramas included in this volume are Edward Young's The Brothers (1753, title soiled and damaged), Goethe's Clavidgo (1798), Cymbeline adapted from Shakespeare by William Hawkins (1759, title soiled and detached), Browne's Barbarossa (title lacking), James Thomson's Coriolanus (1749) and James Miller's Mahomet the Impostor adapted from Voltaire (1744).
