Each side of the neck and middle section is carved with a taotie mask, and the foot with pairs of confronted upright dragons, all divided by notched flanges that are repeated at the corners. Together with a transluscent jadeite bowl and cover that are of pale greenish-white color suffused with cloudy inclusions.

The jade fanggu is stylistically similar to two examples in the Qing Court collection, which are dated to the Ming dynasty and illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 41 - Jadeware (II), Hong Kong, 1995, pp. 224-27, pls. 179 and 180.
