A PAIR OF BRONZE MASK HANDLES
HAN DYNASTY (206 BC - AD 220)
Each is cast as a taotie with bulging eyes below pronounced brows and curved horns flanking a central peak on the forehead, and above a long hooked nose curved under to suspend a loose ring, now missing. There is a drilled hole to either side of the eyes, and the reverse is cast with a central tenon for attachment. The surface has extensive malachite encrustation.
