Attached to the shoulder is a two-part swing handle. The sides of the cover are similarly decorated below the flat top, which is pierced with a pattern of interlocking wan diaper. Painted enamel handwarmers were listed as tribute items to the Qing court. A slightly larger example, decorated with a pink ground, is illustrated by Yang Boda in Tributes from Guandong to the Qing Court, Hong Kong, 1987, no. 47.
