Lot Essay

Zhang Jun, better known by his artistic name, Boying, was a painter and calligrapher from Shimen, Zhejiang province. Most of his adult life was spent in Japan, where he founded the Chinese Nanga Institute, and arranged exhibitions of Chinese contemporary artists. Eventually he returned to Shanghai.
