Lot Essay

Compare a celadon-glazed inkstone of similar size, molded in high relief with a crab, and fitted with a wood cover, illustrated in Documentary Works of Art, In Scholar's Taste, Sydney L. Moss, Ltd., London, 1983, p. 167, no. 108. A slightly larger celadon-glazed ink palette and cover is illustrated by M. Beurdeley in The Chinese Collector through the Centuries, From the Han to the 20th Century, Rutland, Vermont, 1966, p. 240, cat. 95.
