Compare a related blue and white barrel-form jar, with similar decoration, and gilt fu-dog finial, illustrated by C.J.A. Jörg in Chinese Ceramics in the Collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, London, 1997, p. 110, pl. 106, where Jörg notes that these barrel-form or drum-shaped jars were referred to as a 'candy pot' by Dutch collectors.
