A BLUE AND WHITE BOWL
KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)
The deep, rounded sides are decorated on the exterior with a continuous scene of scholars in a landscape where two cranes can be seen in flight. Three of the scholars are shown seated beside books or scrolls, and two are seated beside a deer, while a fourth scholar approaches on a bridge accompanied by an attendant carrying a bundle of scrolls. A further pair of deer are shown in a landscape roundel in the center of the interior below a band of stylized rocks and grasses.
