A PORCELAIN FAUX 'JADEITE' RUYI SCEPTER
GUANGXU PERIOD (1875-1908)
The heavily potted porcelain scepter is finely molded in high relief on top of the ruyi head with a dragon leaping amidst clouds in pursuit of a flaming pearl. This motif is on the handle below the quadrilobed center, which is molded with the wufu surrounding a shou medallion, while above a crane stands on a pierced rock rising from waves as it faces the sun. The scepter is enameled overall in mottled blue-green and white in imitation of jadeite. Together with a large coral-lacquered openwork scepter, of 19th century date, that is made in imitation of a branch of lingzhi fungus.
19 and 21½ in. (48.3 and 54.6 cm.) long (2)
