Lot Essay

A single teabowl and saucer with this pattern was in the Hodroff Collection and before that in the Mottahedeh Collection, illustrated by David Howard in The Choice of the Private Trader, London, 1994, p. 175, and by Howard and Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, vol. I, p. 164, respectively. Another single example from the Dr Anton C. R. Dreesmann Collection was sold Christie's King Street, 10 April 2002, lot 384.
