Lot Essay

The design copies the Nigde Carpet which was previously in the McMullan Collection and which is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (Joseph V. McMullan, Islamic Carpets, New York, 1965, p.164-165, pl. 41). It was first published by F.R. Martin, A History of Oriental Carpets before 1800, Stockholm, 1908.
