Lot Essay

The inscription cartouche at the top of the carpet reads 'payandeh bad bozorgan-e mashahir-e 'alam', which translates as 'May they be [ever] lasting, the famous great ones of the world'.
The inscription on the temple pediment reads 'bar qarar bad zendegani-ye konandegan-e 'alam' which translates as 'May the life of the makers of the world be steadfast'.
