Lot Essay

Although this desk is unmarked, the design in the Louis XVI style and quality of workmanship suggest that it could have been retailed by one of the leading retailers and interior decorators of the late 19th century, Wright and Mansfield. Notable for their Adam revival interiors at Guisachan, near Inverness and the Louis XVI style suit of rooms at Brook House, London, their work was shown extensively at the Great Exhibition of 1862 and the Paris Exhibition of 1867. The company ceased trading in 1887.
