A SCOTTISH BASKET-HILTED BROADSWORD
LATE 17TH EARLY 18TH CENTURY
With double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section and cut on each side with a short fuller towards the forte respectively inscribed 'ANDRIA' and 'FARARA', grooved ricasso, blackened iron hilt of slender bars supporting shields pierced with circles and hearts, S-shaped filler on each side at the rear of the guard, fluted domed pommel, and grooved slightly swelling wooden grip, the blade almost certainly a working replacement (blade cleaned, some pitting, hilt with corrosion marking beneath blackened finish)
