Mark of Lucas van Giffen II, Groningen, 1783/84
Of bombé shape, with shaped lower rim, on acanthus scroll feet, the body engraved with flowers, leaves, garlands and laurel medallions with urns, the slightly tapering lid engraved with two crests and leaves, with floral finial, the base engraved with two coats-of-arms with the inscriptions SPARRINGA and WICHERS, inscribed Edward Baird on his Marriage from Walter Durnford in memory of Eton & Sandhurst 1893, marked on base
