A SAFAVID ENGRAVED BRASS TORCHSTAND (SHAMDAN)
IRAN, 17TH CENTURY
Rising from a wide trumpet foot through slightly tapering faceted cylindrical shaft to flat rim, the body divided into three registers by raised collars, the lower two registers with lattice of interlocking cusped leaves surrounding palmettes on a ground of scrolling floral vine, the upper register and the foot with nasta'liq verses, each section bordered above and below by bands of scrolling floral vine, later associated top also with engraved floral decoration
12 7/8in. (32.8cm.) high excluding top
