Of typical form, the narrow end linked to the wide body by a carved grotesque head with gaping mouth and pointed teeth, eyes and moustache fitted with black composition, silver attachment hoop

Lot Essay

It is unusual to have a powder horn of this curved shape crafted out of a single piece of ivory. The carved tiger's head on the finial of this horn is similar to the pommel on the hilt of a sword which sold in these Rooms, 6 October 2011, lot 440.
