KASHMIR, 19TH CENTURY
Persian manuscript on cream paper, 490ff. as numbered plus 4 fly-leaves, each folio with 6ll. of bold black nasta'liq in clouds reserved against gold ground, catchwords, important words and phrases picked out in red, text panels outlined in gold and polychrome and with a polychrome geometric minor border, the margins with gold floral illumination and further gold and polychrome outer rule, marginal notes in smaller black and red nasta'liq sometimes playfully arranged into shapes or geometric patterns, opening bifolio with dense gold and polychrome illumination surrounding 4ll. of text, some worming, first and final folios reinforced, in later blue morocco with flap, cream paper doublures
