Opaque pigments and gold on paper, depicting a couple between two blossoming trees, the dark-skinned lover, possibly Krishna seated on a white bench, his lover, possibly Radha, standing before him, surrounded by deer, monkeys playing in tree, against blue ground, with yellow panels above and below, numbered at top, between white and light pink borders, the reverse with 8ll. of black devanagari script, top right corner lacking, rubbing

Lot Essay

Stylistically the present painting is very close to a double sided page in the Collection of the Fondation Custodia, Paris (Sven Gahlin, The Courts of India, Paris, 1991, no. 70, p. 68).
