An early copy of this diwan comprising a qasida, ghazaliyat and ruba'iyat, Persian manuscript on paper, 240ff. plus two fly-leaves, each folio with 19ll. of black nasta'liq script arranged in two columns with double black-ruled gold interlinear divisions, text within blue and black-ruled gold frame, most folios with catchwords, opening bifolios of the qasida and ghazaliyat with gold and polychrome illuminated headpieces and gold and blue floral margins, opening and final bifolios restored, the reverse of the opening folio with later owners' notes, in brown morocco binding

Lot Essay

The Mughal emperor Jahangir records in his memoirs (Tuzuk-i Jahangiri) that he invited the poet Naziri to his court in 1611 AD. The poet composed a qasida to the emperor in return for which Jahangir gave him "a thousand rupees, a horse and a robe of honour."

An owner's note to the first folio gives the name of al-Nasir (?) Farhad bin Wali'ahd .. and the date of Jumada I AH 1292. A second note gives the name of J. Fargues and the date of 1882.
