Lithographic dedication, map, additional lithographic title with mounted chromolithographic vignette, 24 mounted chromolithographic plates, 6 plain lithographic plates, text-illustrations. (Plain plates with marginal staining, a few leaves and plates with frayed edges, the last plate 'Scraps from my Sketchbook' more heavily affected, light staining and soiling throughout.) Contemporary half leather over red cloth boards, upper cover decorated in gilt (worn, edges heavily rubbed, upper cover scraped, gutta percha perished and the whole loose). Provenance: ROBERT FALCON SCOTT (although no sign of provenance) -- and thence by descent to the present owners.
