Lot Essay

Buvelot collaborated with the French artist Moreaux on a set of subjects in Rio, Buvelot painting the landscapes and Moreaux the figures, the set lithographed and published by Heaton and Rosenburg, Rio de Janeiro, as Rio de Janeiro pitoresco, issued in parts between 1842 and 1845. The complete album comprised 13 lithographs including two tinted lithographs, 58 vignettes on twelve sheets, and a lithograph vignette on the cover.
